{TRAVEL} Jane wanders to Cornwall

Hiya everyone!

Today I am going to tell you about the very interesting third day of our trip around England. We took a three hour drive from Lyme Regis to Cornwall where we had a few stops to fit in during one day.

The four towns we planned on seeing were Marazion (on the way to Cornwall), Penzance, Land's End and St. Ives. They are all very close together so it was only about a 30 minute drive from one to the other.

We stopped in Marazion to have a look at St Michael's Mount. I was quite keen to have a walk over there (it's actually an island when it's high tide) but we literally just stopped into the town for scones and lattes. The St Michael's Mount rocky island is crowned by a medieval church and castle and is actually still home to the St Aubyn family. Imagine having an island castle as a house!

We stopped at the Marazion Hotel for the scones and lattes, so delicious!
We stayed in a tiny hotel called Estoril that is just up the road from the harbour area. You can read my review here. We dropped off our bags and went off to explore some more of Cornwall.

We first stopped at Land's End. Despite the fact that it was summer in England, it was absolutely freezing! Land's End is the most westerly point of mainland England. You usually have a beautiful view of the cliffs and can take a walk along the 'moores', but we could barely see anything.

I finally got my Cornish ice cream after missing out in Lyme Regis
Next stop was St Ives. Despite my sister and I giving two perfectly acceptable Google Maps routes that would take roughly 30 minutes, my dad insisted we take the coastal route. Well well well... It took us 2 frustrating hours of single-lane country road (with trucks and buses to boot) to get to St Ives and we didn't catch one glance of the coast on the way! Needless to say, we were exhausted by the time we arrived.

We drove through the town and went to park near the beach. The cemetery you see below was precariously slanted with a great view of the sea. We had a look out to the beach and sea and surfers, and then got back into the car to Penzance. Yes, that's right. We drove two hours and I took 4 photos from a parking lot.

We had a little nap at the hotel, I was surprised at how level-headed we all were after the frustrating drive, and then we were off to dinner. Since Penzance is known for it's pirates, we decided to visit The Pirate Inn for our meal, you can find my very positive review here.

Loved the cutsie decor at The Pirate Inn
Our last stop on the British road trip is Bath and Stonehenge, coming soon!
